Anchor Ethanol

Anchor Ethanol

Anchor Ethanol Limited produces world-class potable alcohol and industrial ethanol.

Our ethanol is produced from whey, which is produced during various dairy processing techniques. Ethanol produced at Anchor Ethanol Ltd is primarily from whey resulting from the production of casein, caseinates and TMP. The lactose (milk sugar) in the whey is fermented by lactose specific yeast, which metabolizes the lactose to produce ethanol.

The resulting liquid, known as beer, is then fractionally distilled under carefully controlled conditions through stripping and rectifying columns to remove other impurities.

Anchor Ethanol manufacturing plants have the ability to produce both hydrous ethanol (96 per cent strength) and anhydrous ethanol (99.9 per cent strength) of different specifications.

Currently, Anchor Ethanol has three ethanol plants operating at Edgecumbe, Reporoa and Tirau in New Zealand.
