Caring for Communities

Doing good together in our communities

Our Co-operative was created through a community of people working together to help each other – it’s our back bone, it’s who we are, it’s where we come from and it’s what we do.

The communities we are part of have always been important to us.

As a New Zealand company in Japan, Fonterra Japan is working on projects which enable us to contribute to Japanese society.

Celebrating the impact we make together.

Game on English

Game on English is an educational project sponsored by the Government of New Zealand. It was developed to meet the "Sport for Tomorrow" of the Abe administration, an initiative to spread the value of sports and the Olympic Movement for the internationalization of education and a better future.

The program aims to provide Japanese youth with an intensive English learning program and a place for professional sports skills training. A number of participants have since gone on to enjoy successful careers in professional rugby.

Fonterra Japan supports a group of high school students studying in New Zealand for 2-3 weeks. Our support as sponsor is in its tenth year since beginning in 2014.

Students stay with a New Zealand family during the program and experience daily rugby training and English lessons. Students learn about Te Reo Māori and Culture as well as sustainability in New Zealand

New Zealand Hokkaido Dairy Collaboration Project

The New Zealand Hokkaido Dairy Collaboration Project is working with dairy farmers to promote grazing and improve the quality of pasture in Hokkaido.

A project utilises the know-how of New Zealand grass farming methods with the goal of contributing to the profitability and sustainability of dairy farming in Japan.

This project, which started in 2014, is a joint project of three parties, the New Zealand government, Farmage, and Fonterra, under the cooperation of the Hokkaido Government and the Hokuren Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives.
