Fonterra Chairman John Wilson, Director Blue Read and European Policy and Advocacy Manager Francis Reid recently met with the Board of the International Dairy Federation in Brussels.
Fonterra is a long-time member of the IDF, an organisation that represents the global dairy sector to ensure the best scientific expertise is used to support high quality milk and nutritious, safe and sustainable dairy products.
Fonterra’s Chief Technology Officer Jeremy Hill, who is the current IDF President and Chairman of the IDF Board, was on hand to welcome the Fonterra contingent and thanked our Co-op on its on-going commitment to IDF.
Jeremy also highlighted that Fonterra’s commitment to IDF has created significant value for the Co-op including the recent update to the international standard method for measuring protein in powdered milk products*.
John thanked the IDF for the key role it plays in standards development and best practices for the dairy industry. He also emphasised the importance of the IDF and its science based influence of intergovernmental organisations such as Codex, FAO, OIE and WHO, who help set standards and policies on dairy safety and quality globally.
*Fonterra Lead Chemist Chemist Richard Johnson was recently awarded the IDF Prize of Excellence for his work on validating the Kjeldahl method, typically used for measurement on liquid whole milk, for a range of powder products. Richard worked with a group of international experts through the IDF and the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO).
