Fonterra joins with others to mark International Chemistry Week

3 MINUTE READ

From 12-15 November, Fonterra will participate in the 17th International Hydrocolloids Conference at Massey University in Palmerston North, coinciding with International Chemistry Week 2024.

This annual celebration highlights the contributions of chemistry to society, showcasing its role in addressing global challenges.

This year's conference brings together experts to explore advancements in hydrocolloids. Hydrocolloids are food ingredients that improve texture and stability in products, helping maintain quality and extend shelf life. They are widely used in the food industry for tasks like thickening, gelling, and stabilising foam and emulsions.

Fonterra is a proud sponsor of the conference, which is a fantastic opportunity for the exchange of ideas around sustainable food solutions.

Dr Skelte Anema, Fonterra’s Principal Research Scientist for Food Structure, will present his publication on “The Magic of Milk Proteins.” His insights will delve into how the unique interactions between milk proteins influence the functional qualities of dairy products, further demonstrating Fonterra’s expertise in protein science and sustainable dairy innovation.

Dr Skelte is one of the most cited scientists worldwide and is based at the Fonterra Research and Development Centre (FRDC) in Palmerston North. The FRDC team are dedicated to finding innovative advances and breakthroughs related to dairy nutrition. Whether it’s enhancing the nutritional profile of our products or developing sustainable packaging solutions, FRDC fosters a collaborative environment where experts push the boundaries of dairy science, delivering meaningful advancements for customers and consumers while growing value for the Co-operative’s farmer shareholders.

Innovation is one of the six strategic choices Fonterra has made as part of a wider vision to be the source of the world’s most valued dairy.

As part of International Chemistry Week, we invite you to learn more about some of the chemists who work here at Fonterra and our approach to dairy innovation and science. Explore how Fonterra continues to be a leader in this space, including investing in R&D and embracing technology to solve challenges and build on competitive advantages.
