Jakarta, 1 Oktober 2020 – Fonterra Brands Manufacturing Indonesia has moved forward with its commitment to the environment and has commissioned solar power on top of its manufacturing facility in Cikarang. This is the first solar power system for Fonterra in south east Asia.

The rooftop solar panel system will power between 15 and 25 per cent of the site's energy needs direct from the sun. The use of solar energy is estimated to reduce the site’s CO2 emissions by over 424 metric tons per year, resulting in energy efficiency equal to 6,259 seedlings grown trees for 10 years.

Shekhar Rapaka, President Director of Fonterra Brands Manufacturing Indonesia, said, “Sustainability is core to Fonterra’s strategy and we are committed to transitioning to a more sustainable way of food production globally. The solar panels will help reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

“This is a positive step towards Fonterra meeting its global interim target of a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and a net zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
