Supporting Elderly Groups to Celebrate the Sanctity of Eid Al-Fitr, Anlene and PEROSI Provide Access of Nutritious Milk to Elderly Groups

At the end of the blessed holy month of Ramadan, Anlene announced its latest initiative to provide access to Anlene milk equivalent to Rp 10 Billion to all Indonesians, especially the elderly. The distribution of over 50,000 cans of milk is a nationwide initiative conducted with several partners through various programs. For the Greater Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi area, this collaboration involves the Indonesian Osteoporosis Association (PEROSI), a partner that has long collaborated with Anlene to provide massive bone, joint and muscle health education for Indonesians.

According to BPS's 2022 Elderly Population Statistics, around 42% of elderly people in Indonesia experience health complaints that are intermittent and can appear at any time. This means that their health complaints, including declining bone, muscle and joint density, come often. During Ramadan, when the intensity of prayers have to increase significantly, prayer movements such as sujud and rukuk done by the elderly often cause pain, especially in the knee joints and muscles. This can be caused by calcification of bone, muscle and joint density as the body naturally weakens due to ageing. Therefore, it becomes increasingly important for the elderly to consume high intakes of vitamin D, vitamin C and calcium to keep their bones strong and avoid pain caused by calcification.

"1 in 10 Indonesians are elderly and the sad fact is that, 2 in 5 elderly people are at risk of osteoporosis.[1] Many of these elderly people also struggle with inadequate levels of calcium and vitamin D, nutrients that are scientifically proven to be important for bone health and highly correlated with osteoporosis. These challenges further underscore how significant it is to address nutritional deficiencies in the elderly population to prevent and manage chronic conditions such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Therefore, initiatives such as this are important to encourage a reduction in the prevalence of osteoporosis in Indonesian," explained Dr. dr. Tirza Z Tamin, Sp.KFR, M.S. (K), FIPM (USG), Chairperson of the Indonesian Osteoporosis Association (PEROSI), an Anlene partner who supports and contributes to this distribution of Anlene milk.

"We at Anlene share the same concerns as PEROSI, and are proud to announce this initiative to support the elderly in Indonesia. Distributing Anlene milk to ensure that elders in need can have access to this essential nutrient makes this year's Ramadan especially meaningful for us. We believe in the importance of giving back to the community, especially to the elderly who have always become our priority. Going forward, Anlene will remain steadfast in our commitment to educate the public about the dangers of osteoporosis and the importance of fulfilling nutrition to maintain a healthy body," said Riescha Gayatri, Marketing Director of Fonterra Brands Indonesia. She further explained that this activity also responded to the spirit of friendship and giving back to others in the month of Ramadan.

"With more than two decades of experience addressing the nutritional needs of older adults in preventing bone, muscle and joint loss, Fonterra's nutritionists and food technologists continue to refine Anlene to meet high nutritional standards. Anlene offers nutritional content suited to the needs of the mature age group, with the advantage of high levels of Vitamin D and protein to strengthen bones and muscles. Its unique formula also contains a combination of collagen and vitamin C to maintain joint flexibility. Produced using milk from certified grass-fed and pasture-raised cows, Anlene milk is also rich in beta carotene which will help maintain healthy bones, joints and muscles naturally," concluded Haryadi Raharjo, Scientific & Nutrition Manager, Fonterra Brands Indonesia.

Anlene as an adult milk brand from Fonterra has long been known for its dedication and commitment to contribute to maintaining the bone, joint and muscle health of the elderly in Indonesia through various educational programs and other initiatives. This newly announced initiative is part of Anlene's 20-year commitment. Going into more details about this initiative, the initiative will be carried out through several phases: before Ramadan, during Ramadan, and will be consistently done after Ramadan. Furthermore, especially after Ramadan, through various other programs that are also supported by various Anlene partners, the provision of Anlene products for the general public, especially the elderly, will still continue. By providing nutritious Anlene products to those in need, Anlene hopes to have a significant positive impact on the health and well-being of the elderly.
